Born in New Zealand and a graduate from Auckland University, Josephine Costantino undertook postgraduate studies in London and the New England Conservatory in Boston. On returning to New Zealand, she played with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and was a cello tutor at Victoria University in Wellington. Josephine was for several years cellist with the New Zealand String Quartet with whom she toured extensively and made several recordings. Since moving to Sydney in 1995, she has maintained a varied career as a freelance musician. She has played with many ensembles including the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Melbourne and Sydney Symphony Orchestras. Teaching is a great source of enjoyment and inspiration for Josephine. As well as teaching her cello students, she tutors chamber music at the Sydney Conservatorium High School and also a cello tutor for a number of ensembles in the Sydney Youth Orchestra program.
