Amanda Fairs studied violin with Beryl Kimber in Adelaide and subsequently completed a BA in Music Performance with Jan Sedivka in Hobart, where she was a member of the Tasmanian University String Quartet. A German Government Post Grad Scholarship took her to Freiburg to study viola with Ulrich Koch. She was a member of the German Youth Orchestra and Ensemble  Modern, and worked in the Saarbrucken Radio Orchestra and in the Teatro Bellini Opera Orchestra in Sicily.

Returning to Australia, Amanda held positions in the Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide Symphony Orchestras, freelanced in Brisbane, and finally settled in Melbourne to have a family and teach in the String Department at Camberwell Grammar School.

She is profoundly grateful for the early inspiration, mentoring and lifelong friendships State and National Music Camps and the Australian Youth Orchestra have given her.
