Kristy Conrau has been a member of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra cello section since 2006. Kristy studied cello with Nelson Cooke and graduated with Honours from the Victorian College of the Arts in 1998. After graduating she played with the Australian Youth Orchestra and Orchestra Victoria. In 2000 she completed the Advanced Performance Program at the Australian National Academy and soon after studied with Howard Penny in Vienna. She moved to Sydney in 2003 to study with Julian Smiles and was a Sydney Symphony Fellow in 2004.
In addition to playing chamber music with her Sydney Symphony Orchestra colleagues, Kristy has performed with many chamber ensembles in Sydney and Melbourne, including the Florizel Trio, Streeton Trio, Linden Quartet, Chanterelle String Quartet, Enigma String Quartet and the Omega Ensemble.
Kristy has previously taught the cello at SCEGGS Darlinghurst and tutored for the Australian Youth Orchestra, Sydney Youth Orchestra and the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s Penrith Youth Orchestra Program. She was last a tutor at the Riverina Summer School for String in 2009 and attended as a student in 1995.
