Kees Boersma has held the position of Principal Double Bass of the Sydney Symphony Orchestra since 1990. He studied at the Victorian College of the Arts and Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam, where he subsequently performed for two seasons with the renowned Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. Kees enjoys an extremely varied performance career - he was for ten years a member of the contemporary music ensemble Elision, performs regularly with the Australia Ensemble and Sydney Soloists, has performed with Pinchgut Opera and is enjoying his recent foray into the wonderful world of double bass quartets with The Four Basses! He is an enthusiastic educator, lecturing double bass at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music , tutoring regularly with the Australian Youth Orchestra and establishing a string ensemble program at Leichhardt Public School.
