One of Australia's foremost teachers and educators, Fintan Murphy is widely acclaimed for his CD and DVD recordings notably The Soul of the Viola, Bridges, the Violin Alive series and Violin Bow Technique. Currently a senior Lecturer at Monash University, Fintan studied extensively in Europe and the US with artists such as Robert Gerle, Christoph Poppen, Helfried Fister and the Amadeus Quartet. Fintan directs the Melbourne String Ensemble, a youth orchestra specialising in small ensemble repertoire and chamber music for strings. He has worked as a guest conductor and soloist with many youth orchestras in Europe (Manresa Conservatory, Escola Superior de Mœsica de Lisboa and Junge Kammerorchester Stuttgart). A pre-eminent international scholar in the area of string pedagogy, Fintan is widely in demand as a consultant, presenter and writer in addition to maintaining an active performance career as a violinist and violist.
